Artificial Limbs drive amidst the challenging time of lockdown in Ahmedabad, Gujarat

In December 2020 before the nationwide lockdown, Getbak associated with the Rotary club of Halvad to aid 70 kids with artificial legs. Handicapped kids from various districts of Gujarat as well as neighbouring states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra were provided with artificial legs of the amount of more than 30 lakhs, all for free. This could be possible because of ALTSO (A Leg To Stand On), a New York based NGO, that helped to provide high-tech prosthetic legs that are extremely light in weight and give smooth leg motion.

GetBak is the sole Indian partner of ALTSO, because of whom they are able to bear all the costs of prosthetics so that they can provide the kids for free until the age of 21. With the help of Rotary club, this camp could reach out to such a wide geographical area and the registration process was managed before lockdown, but then came the challenging times. “We didn’t let the challenge of lockdown curb the children’s way to happiness. We couldn’t let their glimmer of hope fade. We kept our camp on. By appointing 1-2 children in a day, we successfully completed our campaign. There’s always a way for goodness”, said Dr. Chandani Korat, CEO, and Prosthetist at GetBak.
